The formula
Total = sum of each die roll + modifier. Each roll is an even chance of 1 to the number of sides.
Dice you can roll
- d6: the classic six-sided die for board games.
- d20: the main die in many tabletop role-playing games.
- d4, d8, d10, d12: damage and other rolls in role-playing games.
- d100: percentile rolls, from 1 to 100.
Fair rolls
We use the browser's secure random generator and avoid the small bias that comes from a careless remainder calculation, so every face is equally likely.
Some odds
With two d6, the most likely total is 7, which comes up 1 time in 6, while 2 and 12 each come up 1 time in 36. A single d20 has a 5 percent chance of every number.
Dice Roller: frequently asked questions
Can I roll several different dice at once?
Roll one type at a time. For mixed dice, roll each type and add the totals.
What does the modifier do?
It adds or subtracts a fixed number from the total, such as "+3" for a skill bonus.
How accurate is this estimate?
It is as accurate as the numbers you give it. Real-world amounts such as paint, concrete or fuel vary, so allow a margin.
Is what I enter in this tool saved or sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser, so what you enter is not sent to our servers. We only count, anonymously, whether a tool ran successfully.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and has no usage limit.
