The formula

Business days = calendar days - Saturdays - Sundays - listed holidays that fall on weekdays.

How it counts

Weekends are Saturday and Sunday. Any date you list under holidays is taken out, but only if it falls on a weekday, so a holiday on a Sunday is not subtracted twice.

Tick "Count the end date too" if the last day should be included. Leave it off if you want the gap between the dates, with the start day counted and the end day not.

Example

October 2026 has 31 days and 9 of them are weekend days, leaving 22 weekdays. If 2 October is a public holiday, that drops to 21 business days.

Where people use it

  • Delivery and shipping estimates quoted in "working days"
  • Notice periods, payment terms and refund windows
  • Project schedules and sprint planning

Be careful with contracts: they may define business days differently, for example excluding bank holidays in a particular country. Add those holidays to the list to match.

Business Days Calculator: frequently asked questions

Does it include public holidays automatically?

No, because they differ by country and region. Paste your local holidays, one per line, and they are skipped.

How many working days are in a year?

Usually 260 or 261, before holidays. Most countries have between 8 and 15 public holidays, so expect about 245 to 252.

Can I use a six-day working week?

Not in this version. It assumes Saturday and Sunday are the weekend.

Does it take leap years into account?

Yes. Calculations use real calendar dates, including leap days and the different lengths of months.

Is what I enter in this calculator saved or sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser, so what you enter is not sent to our servers. We only count, anonymously, whether a tool ran successfully.

Is this calculator free to use?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and has no usage limit.
